” The background
of this concept album – the myth of the lonesome cosmonaut forgotten in outer space – is not historically correct.
First of all, Sergey Krikalyov never was alone on the Mir. When Soyuz TM-13 left the space station, its commander Aleksandr Volkov stayed with him. Moreover, both of them weren’t forgotten there, but agreed to stay in the wake of some – in retrospect maybe silly – political decisions made by the disintegrating USSR. Correct is that Krikalyov was living on the Mir almost six months longer than initially planned – 311 days in total.
Nevermind, this 51-minute metaphor about loneliness in a far-away artificial refuge beyond all civilization is a faithful retro-style opus in the vein of 70’s space rock, as created then by “Nektar”, “Eloy”, “Grobschnitt”, and the likes.
